About Us

Chabad House Uganda was established in 5778 (2017) by Rabbi Moshe and Rebbetzin Yochved Raskin, under the auspices of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. It serves as a warm hub of holiness for every Jew. The Jewish center in Uganda is part of a vigorous effort to bring Torah and Chassidut to wherever Jews are found, driven by love and open-heartedness. Based on the verse 'You shall burst forth to the west, to the east, to the north, and to the south,' The Lubavitcher Rebbe sends his emissaries to expand new paths to Jewish hearts everywhere.

Chabad House Uganda offers:

  1. Synagogue - Daily morning, afternoon, and evening prayers are held at Chabad House in downtown Kampala (often without a minyan).
  2. Shabbat and Holidays - Shabbat prayers, classes, and festive meals in a magical and holy atmosphere have become a hallmark. Regular community members, travelers, and tourists gather to experience the elevated Jewish spirit with Chabad on Shabbat.
  3. Traveler's Center - A spacious, air-conditioned room offers free Wi-Fi to visitors. Highly recommended for a smooth landing in the country.
  4. Kosher Food Supply - Available for community members, travelers, and visiting businessmen. Orders can be placed for pickup or delivered by Yochis Deli's tasty home-cooked meals. Kosher catering options are also available for organized safari trips. See details under Catering and Kosher Food Services.
  5. Hebrew and Tradition Classes for Children - Weekly quality time for learning Hebrew and Jewish traditions.
  6. Torah Classes - Weekly Torah classes for men in Hebrew and English at the synagogue, followed by a delicious dinner. Private Torah lessons in all areas of Torah are also available; contact Rabbi Moshe Raskin for more details at bit.ly/3RM50s0.

The Vision

For six years, the Jewish community's activities at Chabad Uganda have been growing and thriving. We never stop: classes, clubs, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, synagogue, Shabbat and holiday meals, charity work, and kindness—all in one place, one building, which serves as a second home for all of us. Currently, Chabad House Uganda invites friends to participate in strengthening the Jewish center in Uganda and establishing a spacious facility to expand activities and spread light in Uganda.
