Humanitarian Aid and Volunteerism in the Community
Chabad Uganda serves as a beacon of light for Jews and non-Jews alike. Based on this foundational principle, we recognize the need to contribute, participate, and provide humanitarian assistance, as well as spiritual influence to the local community. This goal is no less significant than strengthening the Jewish community. This activity is part of the vision and aspiration of the Lubavitcher Rebbe of blessed memory to prepare the world for the arrival of Moshiach through the dissemination of divine messages and faith in one God and the Seven Noahide Laws worldwide.
In Uganda, there are several volunteer organizations engaging with the local population in various volunteering fields such as education, hygiene, healthcare, and more.
Here are some volunteer organizations in Uganda:
Bilu Uganda Association:
Engaged in health-related activities, we conduct diabetes and hypertension screenings and establish clinics for managing chronic diseases in hospitals in the Kiboja area. Part of the project also includes training local healthcare workers and empowering patients and their families. Other projects include providing HPV vaccinations throughout the district's schools and training nursing assistants, caregivers, and physicians within regional hospitals.
We are seeking doctors and paramedics to join our health initiative for a volunteer period starting from July 2023. Interested individuals are invited to contact us at [email protected].
TEN Project by the Jewish Agency:
TEN operates 8 volunteer centers worldwide, with Israeli and Jewish volunteers from different communities committing to a 3-month period. For over a decade, TEN has been promoting community resilience in various locations worldwide, working alongside local partners based on Jewish and universal values as part of repairing the world. TEN offers long-term volunteer programs tailored for young adults aged 20-28 interested in informal education. Our extended volunteer program runs for three months and opens every January, May, and September in Uganda, Ghana, Cambodia, Ethiopia, South Africa, Mexico, and Argentina. The program provides a life-changing experience encompassing volunteerism, learning, and travel. Volunteers and staff live together in a communal house during the TEN program. The team and volunteers jointly manage meals, cleaning, and various activities. Additionally, our volunteer program allows participants to independently travel every other week, enabling them to explore the country!
The TEN center in Uganda welcomes passionate educators and healthcare professionals. Our volunteer center was established in 2016 in a village called Namulanda, situated between Kampala and Entebbe.
Education activities encourage children and adolescents to become proactive individuals who positively impact their communities. Through our health program, we provide essential assistance and therapy, aiming to strengthen the bond between healthcare professionals and the community for a healthier society.
Volunteer Accommodation: Volunteers reside together in a secure communal house located on the shores of Lake Victoria. The living area includes clean water, a vegetarian kitchen, a fully equipped dining room, bathrooms, showers, an activity room, and a shared courtyard.
Shabbat and Holidays: Every second weekend, volunteers are free to explore the country. The program welcomes a diverse range of religious and secular backgrounds. All activities planned for Shabbat and Jewish holidays are tailored for observant participants. However, each participant is free to observe Shabbat according to their personal preferences.
